Join our Swordfighting Beginner course in Waterford for an introduction into the world of HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts). Running every Tuesday and Saturday, February 10th until April 3rd, Tuesdays 20:30 – 21:30 and Saturdays 14:00 to 15:00 at Pat Rocket Karate Dojo, Ozier Park, Poleberry, Waterford, X91 W9KV Classes run after the course at the same time and location at a subscription of 40 Euros a month.

What to bring

For practice is good without art, but art is nothing without practice. 
The fencing master Hanko Dobringer Whatever weapon system or fencing master you wish to study, our beginner course will help you. It focuses on teaching you fitness, basic parries, attacks and counterattacks. You will learn how to swing a sword and use historical techniques fighting against live opponents. The classes are taught by International Champions and professional stuntmen. On successful completion of the course, you will be ready to join our regular club trainings. The course gives you a foundation for your journey into historical fencing, whether your thing is research, competitive fencing or improving your fitness in a fun way. What you Will Learn

Our beginner course will help you with whatever system you wish to study. The course is focused on teaching you fitness basic parries, attacks and counterattacks. The goal is to get you using these competently in sparring. Practice will include technical solo exercises as well as light sparring and introductions to specific fencing masters.

Joining the Goats

Goats Head Historical Fencing was founded in 2013, training in a church overlooking Passage East under the watchful eye of the mountain goats that live on the rocky slope. Today Goats Head is Ireland’s foremost historical fencing club, with its fencers medalling in international competitions around the globe and performing as stuntmen and women. In 2019 it was the only club in the world with 2 fighters in the top 8 at the European Games. It also leads the way in research with more than a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles by its members.
